Applying for Secondary School
If your child is in Year 6, you can apply for a secondary school (year 7) place between 12 September 2022 and 31 October 2022.
Before you make your application to Essex County Council you should check you live in the administrative area of Essex.
You will need to create an account to use the online admissions system before you can apply, even if you have made an online application in a previous year. You will be asked:
Once you have created an account you will be able to apply for your child’s school place. Please make sure that you submit your online application and that you receive an email to confirm when it has been submitted.
If you do not receive an email which confirms that you have submitted your online application then you have not successfully applied. You must log back into your account and submit. You will not be reminded to do this.

Grammar school places
If you are interested in a year 7 place for September 2023 at one of the selective schools in the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex (CSSE), you need to register your child to sit the 11+ test by the given deadline.

If you are interested in a year 7 place for September 2023 at Chelmsford County High School (CHHS) for Girls, you need to register your child to sit the entrance test by the given deadline.

Essex grammar school places
Entry to Essex grammar schools is based on the results of the entrance test. If your child took the test and was assessed as suitable, the Essex grammar school will consider your application.
