Week 4 Thursday 30th April

Morning Class 4,

 

I hope you are all ok. It was great to speak to Year 6 on Tuesday and to those of you I couldn't get through to, don't forget you can email me at class4@stisted.essex.sch.uk if you want to catch up or let me know what you have been up to.

 

I will try and phone Year 5 students next Tuesday 5th May.

Keep practising the spellings you noted down earlier in the week. Get someone to test you on these words on Friday.

 

SPaG online- I have opened up another test for you. Please use your grammar and punctuation books to help you work through the questions. This one is the 2017 SATs test. See how you get on. (Well done at last week's one- your results were excellent).

 

KS2 English SATs Question book p8-9 What happens next? These texts are about predicting- remember to use evidence/clues from the text.

Numeracy

Visit the Oak Academy website (online lessons) Click on the subject tab (top right) and then click on Year 6 then maths to access a series of lessons on Fractions. Work through these lessons at your own pace.

 

Practise multiplying and dividing with fractions- set your self some extra sums based on those from page 26 from your Number, Ratio and Algebra book.

During WW2 food was rationed and, where possible, British people were encouraged to grow their own vegetables on allotments or in their gardens. Design a poster encouraging people to grow their own food. One of the slogans used was 'Dig for Victory'. Research this to help give you some ideas.

Creative Look at the attached resource pack relating to Captain Tom Moore who recently raised over £28 million for the NHS. Read the information and have a go at one of the challenges in the pack.

Write a report about a TV programme, film or youtube video that you watched recently. Introduce what the programme is about, who appears in it and when you watched it. Try to include both positive sentences and some suggested improvements. Write in clear sentences that are correctly punctuated. Check your work makes sense when you've finished.

 

Look at the Oak Academy website attached- click on the subject tab (top left hand corner) then click on Year 5  and then English. Attempt lessons 1 and 2 which are Reading lessons based on Character descriptions- Fact retrieval and word meaning. It doesn't matter that you haven't done the previous lessons.

Look at the bitesize website- Year 5, Maths- then click on Multiply and Divide by 10,100,1000 lesson (28th April) and attempt the lesson, then complete the short and long multiplication lesson (29th April)

 

Work through the maths textbook you were given- carrying on from where you left off last time. Work carefully and thoughtfully and remember to check your answers.
