Week 5 Monday4th May

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all keeping well, staying safe and that you are getting on ok with the work that I'm setting and trying your best.

I am looking forward to speaking to Year 5 on Tuesday. I'll go down the register starting at 9am so you can work out roughly the time I'll be phoning.

Here is the work for the next few days:

Year 6

Subject What to do: Suggested time

Write down your x 6 table (up to 12 x 6), then write down your 12 x table, then try and work out your x18 table and finally your x24 table. Can you use your x6 and x12 tables to figure out a way to note down your x18 table? What patterns do you notice?

Use long multiplication to solve these calculations 1. 639 x 6      2. 73 x 12      3. 158 x 18.      4. 396 x 24

SATs buster Number, Ratio and Algebra book Checking and Estimating p27-29 (remember when you are estimating you can round numbers e.g 397 could be rounded to 400 or 4.8 could be rounded to 5)

Topic WW2- What was an air raid siren? What did you have to do when you heard it? What were Anderson shelters and Morrison shelters? How was the London Underground used during bombing raids? Read about these subjects before answering the questions. 45 mins
Creative Keep an exercise diary for the week writing down all the different types of exercise you are able to do from Monday to Friday. This can include walking, bike riding, football in the garden, trampolining, Joe Wicks workouts etc. Write down what you do and for how long. But also try to be creative e.g walk up and down the stairs 50 times, star jumps during the adverts of BGT, jogging on the spot/ dancing while your favourite song plays- I'm sure you can think of some better ones!

Project Either continue with your project by planning and writing the next chapter or for those of you that may have completed your project you could think of a different project that you could complete. If you are planning a second project you could turn the red book upside down and work from the other end of the book (hope this makes sense). 45 mins

Year 5

Subject What to do: Suggested time
Literacy

Spellings- Look at the Yr3/4 and Yr5/6 spelling lists you were given. Choose between 10 and 20 new words to learn this week. Copy them down carefully and choose 10 of them to be included to well punctuated and presented sentences. When you have written the sentences check each one has the correct capital letters and a full stop at the end,

Bitesize English Year 5 - Punctuation. Scroll down to the 'Using brackets' lesson (30th April) and then the 'Using ellipsis' lesson (29th April). Follow through the video clips and activities that follow. Noting down what you have learnt.

Keep reading as much as you can (try to keep up with your 4 reads). We will do another Lexile Reading test soon.

Continue working  through the maths textbook you were given- carrying on from where you left off last time. Work carefully and thoughtfully and remember to check your answers.

Time- look at the TV guide for 1 channel for 1 day. Write down the name of the programme and the start and finish times then work out how long each programme lasted. Try to do this for at least 10 programmes. You can use a time line to help you. e.g 8.50am to 9.15am is 25 minutes because:

8.50am -9am is 10 mins then 9am until 9.15am is another 15 mins (10mins + 15mins = 25mins)
